Our Lady of Fatima Dominican Convent School (OLFDCS) in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, began its 60th jubilee celebrations in August with a Choirs in Concert evening.

The jubilee celebrations went ‘groovy’ on a subsequent school day when all members of the teaching and administrative staff joined every learner from grades 1-12 in dressing up, sixties style.

On yet another occasion, the Durban North community joined in a jubilee parade. The bagpipes cried for attention as the school was celebrated by shoppers and business owners during the march.

That evening saw past pupils enthusiastically reminiscing and becoming reacquainted at a cocktail party. Tribute was paid to the Dominican sisters and, in particular, Sister Catherina, who served the school for over 50 years.

The culmination of the celebrations was Fatima Founders’ Day on 9 August. A Mass was celebrated, before moving tributes were paid to the school’s retirees, who had collectively served the school for 126 years.

Other highlights of Founders’ Day included a Grade 9 market day, a helicopter fly-over for an aerial photograph and an exhibition netball match.
