Bangalore may be far away from the jungles of Bali, but some students there take environmental issues just as seriously. Prakriya Green Wisdom School was one of five recent winners.

of the Wipro ‘Earthian’ awards for excellence in education. Wipro is an IT services corporation in Bangalore that funds the Azim Premji University to train teachers. The awards comprised a trophy, certificate and cash. The other three awardwinning schools were Rishi Valley School in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, Kendriya Vidyalaya at Vigyan Vihar in New Delhi, and Anubhuti School at Jalgaon in Maharashtra. Entrants were required to write a critical essay on themes related to sustainability such as climate change, water management, biodiversity and sustainable cities. In the second phase of the programme, selected schools and colleges joined a longterm engagement programme, with the goal of helping the winning institutions embed the building blocks, principles and practices of sustainability into the learning process.

“Sustainability and its challenges are critical and must involve students in schools and colleges as they are future policy makers, scientists, administrators and educationists,” Wipro Chief Sustainability Officer Anurag Behar announced at the award ceremony.
