DSG and St Andrew’s College support local libraries

The Diocesan School for Girls (DSG) and St Andrew’s College in Grahamstown, in the Eastern Cape, are privileged to be part of the greater Grahamstown community that recently generously donated “gently worn” books to the Grahamstown Friends of the Library (FOL) annual fête. The FOL is a non-profit, charitable group formed to support public libraries in the Makana municipality. The FOL is involved in fundraising, advocacy, volunteerism, public awareness campaigns, and literacy programs.

In Grahamstown, the FOL supports eight public libraries in total – Hill St, Fingo, Duna, Extension 9, Riebeeck East, Alicedale and the Community Library — as well as the Makana Mobile
library and the old-age home library.

The monies generated by the annual fête means that the FOL is able to offer these eight Makana libraries the chance to submit an annual “wish list”. The FOL is then able to provide funds towards purchasing the books on the list.
