First regional EC Certiport centre

St Andrew’s Preparatory School in Grahamstown has recently become the first Certiport centre in the Eastern Cape, joining only six other Certiport examination centres in South Africa.

Certiport is a leading provider of value-added, computerised test delivery services.

It is now possible for all members of the faculty at St Andrew’s Prep and College and the Diocesan School for Girls, as well as parents and the broader community, to be trained at St Andrew’s Prep, write the relevant examinations and receive internationally recognised certification in Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) suites.

Being a Certiport-authorised testing centre enables St Andrew’s Prep to be a provider of digital literacy in performance-based certification exams and practice tests for academic institutions. Certiport delivers nearly two million certification examinations each year globally in twentyseven languages. Its products are designed to enable individual success and advancement, and with over 10 000 partners worldwide, it has an expansive network to link into.

By the end of each school year, all Prep Grade 6 pupils should have completed the MOS certification in Word and Grade 7 pupils the MOS certification in PowerPoint. The training and certification assist pupils to gain an in-depth comprehension of the software for use in an assortment of applications.

Karen Hobson, information and communication technology (ICT) head at St Andrew’s Preparatory School, says: “We want our boys to leave Grade 7 with an internationally accredited certification validating their ICT skills, and we believe that MOS provides that.”
