Pridwin partakes in a variety of pleasures

At Pridwin Preparatory School in Johannesburg, the second term is the time for culture.

This year, the Pridwin Jazz Festival took place on the school’s Venus Street Playing Fields in Melrose, on 25 May. “A delectable, melodic occasion under the golden Highveld sun,” said one parent of the event.

Rumble in the Jungle, the Pridwin Senior School play, drew record crowds and standing ovations from appreciative audiences! Happily in the end, Shaka, the Lion Prince, fought the eternal battle of good over evil, and triumphed.

The 2014 Pridwin Reading Challenge was called ‘The Poet in Me’. The children were required to read about the great poets and learned to recite a poem of their choice in a choral verse format; a contest enabled the pupils to write their own calligrams or shape poetry and create a class scrapbook of all their creations; and all were encouraged to read as many books as possible during the six-week period. At the end of the six weeks, the school held a Book Parade, allowing the children to come to school dressed as their favourite literary character.
