St Mary’s Waverley launches Foundation

St Mary’s School Waverley launched its Foundation on 31 March 2011. The occasion highlighted the importance of funding education for talented girls of all races at independent schools. St Mary’s will utilise its enviable academic, cultural and sports facilities to develop the skills of its own teachers and girls as well as those from surrounding disadvantaged communities.

Guest speaker Sheila Boardman, a St Mary’s alumnus and successful businesswoman, said in her speech: “The ability we should prize above all others is the ability of girls from St Mary’s and from other independent schools to express their thoughts, and to put together a concise and cogent argument based on a logical progression of ideas.”

Independent girls’ schools have the task of accommodating and nurturing talented young women from all over South Africa and ensuring the sustainability of their institutions for the future.
