Wellington in China

| November 3, 2010

One of the most famous schools in the world has been replicated in China, and was recently inaugurated by the Duke of York.

The original Wellington College – an independent school in the UK – was opened by Queen Victoria in 1859. Writer George Orwell was one of its famous former pupils.

Tianjin College not only looks like Wellington, but will also replicate the famous British school’s uniforms and house names. Tianjin’s new Headmaster, David Cook, says: “For those present at the inauguration ceremony, it was like visiting Wellington College in Berkshire, except the scene was five thousand miles away, in the picturesque port city of Tianjin, to the south east of Beijing.”
