A brand new IDEA

| September 4, 2017 | 0 Comments

In late July 2017, Independent Education was invited to the launch of a transformative digital education programme. The programme is the brainchild of the Institute of Digital Education Africa (IDEA), in partnership with the Western Cape Department of Education (WCED) and the South African Council of Educators (SACE). From 24 July 2017, teacher professional development and student science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education is set to undergo a radical improvement powered by IDEA’s revolutionary, locally produced digital content.

IDEA will power up digital programmes for teachers and STEM content for students in both urban and rural areas in the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. Over 800 teachers and more than 8 000 students will embark upon the first programme of IDEA STEM, IDEA Teach and IDEA ICT (information and communications technology) courses, accessed through the IDEA Cloud portal.

The pilot aims to empower students and teachers to reach teaching and learning goals using digital resources provided by IDEA and supported by the Training Room Online (a Cape Town-based company offering bespoke e-learning strategies online) and the Department of Basic Education’s Cloud. In addition to the pilot, IDEA is launching its global www.ideaonline.com portal to assist students and teachers to access the courses, as well as track and assess teaching and learning. Committed to pushing the boundaries of digital education, IDEA is proud to announce its AR500 programme to create augmented reality experiments and lessons for students across Africa and the Middle East
