Chesterhouse School celebrates the winter solstice

| August 18, 2014 | 0 Comments

Every year at the time of the southern hemisphere winter solstice in Cape Town in the Western Cape, Chesterhouse School pupils from Grade 6 to Grade 12 celebrate this seasonal phenomenon by jumping into the icy water of the school’s swimming pool.

This Polar Bear Challenge is celebrated with gusto and bravery by both teachers and pupils. For their efforts and courage, resonating with the school’s motto, ‘Courage inspires’, every ‘Polar Bear’ is awarded a Polar Bear certificate, a cup of hot chocolate and the sympathy and adulation of fellow pupils and teachers, who will (maybe) try it out next year!
