Make your school future-proof with e-learning from Optimi

| January 14, 2021 | 0 Comments

In 2020, schools across South Africa have faced their most challenging academic year yet, with lockdown closures disrupting learning in significant ways.

While hard-working teachers and principals have tried their best to adapt and innovate, the COVID-19 crisis has also served as a wake-up call for many schools to improve their e-learning capabilities.

In this environment, it’s wise to ensure that your school has the best e-learning facilities at hand, so that you can keep ahead of learning trends in our increasingly digitised world.

At Optimi Classroom, we are the experts in both learning and e-learning, and we service more than 1000 schools across the country.

We can help your school along its e-learning journey, with regard to key aspects such as digital facilitation, e-books and 21st century teacher training.

Digital facilitation

At Optimi Classroom, through the ITSI classroom teaching and learning solutions, we provide a hi-tech digital facilitator console (FC), which gives schools the ability to manage teachers, learners, courses, and classes in one place.

Features of the FC include teaching and learning analytics, in addition to progress reporting.

The FC allows teachers to link their learners to their profiles, share content seamlessly, as well as the ability to provide access to ebooks and other digital resources.

As part of our GuidED™ Learning Model, our Learning Paths tool takes learners on a journey through the curriculum. Meanwhile, our learning tools from Cami offer computer programmes that help improve and build upon learners’ mathematics, reading, literacy, science, and perceptual skills.

The Cami programmes further allow for individualised learning, which means that learners progress at their own pace and on their own level. Based on the level that they are at, learners are able to use the practice material at their own pace until they understand it.

Cami’s CAPS-aligned programmes are available for Grade R-12 learners in English and Afrikaans, both online and offline.

In addition to all this, our ITSI offering provides more than 1 000 digital lessons that include online exercises and guidance on some of the most common problem subjects. With 34 000 digital resources, like videos, animations, pictures, simulations and assessments, our digital lessons ensure that students are actively engaged.

The digital lessons are available on any device or internet browser. They cover the following subjects: natural sciences (Grades 7-9), life sciences (Grades 10-12), mathematics (Grades 10-12) and physical sciences (Grades 10-12).

Books and resources

With Optimi Classroom, teachers can easily plan their lessons with access to more than 400 000 CAPS-approved and CAPS-aligned e-books from more than 14 000 local and international publishers.

Apart from e-books, we offer worksheets, past examination papers and other multimedia.

Our free e-reader, miEbooks, enables teachers to teach anytime, anywhere. The miEbooks e-reader works on laptops, tablets and smartphones, and it can be downloaded from all the major app stores.

The app enables users to add notes and sketches to specific sections of an e-book, make highlights, generate summaries from highlighted text for study purposes, receive additional multimedia resources, and more. Once downloaded, all books and resources are available offline, and annotations are backed-up whenever users connect to the internet or Wi-Fi within any institution.

Teacher training

In the modern era, teaching finds itself at a crossroads between technological innovation and traditional methodologies. That’s why it is important that educators are fully aware of all the new tools available to them.

This is where our professional development courses – through our ITSI offering – aim to upskill teachers in topics such as change management, which is a necessity when teachers have to adapt to 21st century teaching methods, the flipped classroom, blended learning, software and mobile-device training, and much more.

Our training modules are endorsed by the South African Council for Educators, and teachers can earn valuable Continuing Professional Development points.

Extra-class learning solutions

Schools have faced an incredibly challenging academic year, and while teachers and principals have worked tirelessly to adapt and innovate, the reality is that some learners may experience lasting effects.

Our Academy extra-class learning solutions can support these learners in every step of their learning journey and help them catch up.

Academy supports teachers by offering subject diagnostic assessments to determine the development areas that can be used in order to tailor intervention plans.

From diagnostic assessments supported by a tutoring plan, to career options and even understanding deep learning and neuroplasticity, Academy supports the learning journey using its 21st century approach.

Optimi Classroom wants to support ISASA schools and teachers by offering a 15% discount on Grades 8 and 9 mathematics diagnostic assessments. (Our contact information is presented at the end of this article – please get in touch with us to find out more about this special offer.)

E-learning support

Finally, our in-house support team is there to ensure that your school’s e-learning is set up correctly and runs smoothly.

Our flexibility means that your school can either opt for an ad-hoc support option (using our support team only when you need them), OR go with our monthly subscription packages for regular on-site support.

Either way, as Optimi Classroom, we are here to hold your hand and guide you through this exciting new era of 21st century learning.
