The Royal Society of South Africa invites schools to participate in the National School Science Essay Competition 2025.
Essays should be 1000 – 2000 words in length on one of the following topics:
- ‘Stem cells can be used to model disease. What approaches are acceptable and useful? Why?’
- ‘Is graffiti vandalism or art, or can it be considered a medium of social consciousness?’
- ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) seems all but inevitable now. How will AI benefit or harm society in the long run?’
Learners should please submit their essays to their teacher and not directly to the Society. Teachers are requested to make a selection from essays written by an entire school and forward only the three best essays per topic (A maximum of nine essays per school).
In each of the three topics, the prizes are:
- 1st prize R5 000
- 2nd prize R4 000
- 3rd prize R3 000
- Plus two Merit Prizes to the value of R1000 each
- Plus Trophies for the top two Schools
